Aerogeneradores Canarios, S.A. - ACSA - was created on December the 23th in 1985, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain, with the original objective to develop its activity in the medium size windturbine field. The first installations were realized with 55 kW turbines, in Gran Canaria and Tenerife islands, the results were sufficiently satisfactory.
In 1987, a technology transfer agreement was signed with Vestas Wind Systems, A/S (Denmark), world leader in this field; thanks to this agreement, the 225 kW windturbine began to be made in Canary Islands, with variable angle blades and a 27 metres diameter rotor.
The very good quality of fabrication of the wind-driven generator ACSA-A27/225 kW, the adequate choice of the geographical location, the cautious technical projects of the installations, and an efficient system of maintenance favoured that the windfarms realized by ACSA with these turbines obtained spectacular performances, achieving that the annual capacity factor of some of its installations exceeded the value Fc = 50% (4.380 hours equivalent) on different occasions. Taking in account that the capacity factor of a good performance wind farm is Fc = 35% (3.066 hours equivalent).
Through a first step, while we developed our activity in the Canary Islands, ACSA began its development abroad wining an international competition in Argentina (1996) and realizing works in Mexico (1998 and after). Presently and within this developing programme, ACSA is trying to establish a strong presence in the markets of logical access, as for instance in Central and South America -because of the linguistic affinity - and in Africa - because of its geographical proximity-.
In Central America, concretely in Panama, ACSA has created the company: "Aerogeneradores Iberoamericanos, S. A" with local shareholders, with the aim to cover the Central American market and settle, at the same time, its range of products, promoting the installation of windfarms and the rural electrification. With the same philosophy, to reach the South American market, ACSA has forecasted to build a mixed company in Chili, also with local shareholders.
In Africa, following the same criteria, ACSAER, S.A. and SaerTNC, S.A., in Senegal have been created with local shareholders; as ACSA West Africa, Ltd. and Tecnicanarias West Africa, Ltd., in Ghana. From Senegal we will deal with french spoken countries, and from Ghana with English countries. Also, marketing contacts have been established in various countries in Atlantic Africa such as Morocco, Mauritania, Gambia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Green Cap, Togo and Benin,...
Our subsidiaries above mentioned have two main objectives:
- To market all the range of products of the ACSA group.
- To realize the installation and especially the maintenance of these products, to guarantee to our customers an optimum performance. After this first step and in a next future we will tackle gradually the local manufacturing of components.
ACSA, besides the mentioned activities, promote, install and run windfarms through companies which are part of the group or owned by the group such as PECSA. Plantas Eólicas Canarias, S. A. (7 wind farms), Parque Eólico GC-1, S. A., o ECASA. Eólicos Canarios, S. A.
It is planed to install soon windfarms in Montaña Francisco, Fases II y III, and in Casa Santa, SA. |
